... on TV3, that started at the same time as shiteland Street. It starred Karl Urban among its cast from memory, and was set in a rural community based around a couple of families.
It didn't last too long because ShSt took all the ratings, but this one was phenominally better. I mean, it didn't have over-acting and it had real buildings for sets, unlike ShSt of the time.

Don't know about that but do you remember "Close to Home"?
Hehehe... All the old crappy soaps are starting to pop back into my head. It's quite unnerving...

Thinking about it, that soap might have been called "Homeward Bound" according to Urban's IMDb page www.imdb.com/title/tt0215419/Close to Home, yes, I remember that. All I recall is Pete the slobby guy, always smoking. And I recall a storyline where one of the families went to Rotorua on holiday and the little girl fell in a hot mud pool and was badly burned. Also Mrs Featherston sticks in my mind - - the nosey crabby old biddy one.And I vividly recall the theme tune and opening credits with Wellington's cable car.

What's wrong with "Gloss"? It was fab! Wonderfully OTT, especially Maxine...

Hi Phil, welcome. I never watched Gloss but from all the clips I've seen of it, with the big hair and shoulder pads, all I can do is shudder. hehe

I know what you mean Dave. The eighties have a lot to answer for...
There are still a few photos of me from that period that I wish I'd burned...
