Which was the best in your memory?
Nice One Stu - with Stu Dennison
Chic Chat - with Chic Littlewood, Nowsy, Willie McNab Gramps and Aunt Alma
After School - with Olly Olson
3:45 Live with Fenella Bathfield and Ricki Morris
or
Whatever that thing was with Jason Gunn and Thingy?
Who was/were your favourite?
I think over all, Olly Olson taught kids much more than any other presenter we've ever had. And he was well cool. Kids like him, and didn't feel uncomfortable with things like him speaking Maori or teaching sign language. I loved Nowsy and Mousey when I was younger, and Fenella and Rikki when i was alittle older, I have always hated Gunn, and I was too young to really appreciate Stu when he was on, but to me Olly was the best presenter.

Yep - that all takes me back a few years. Was a bit old for Olly Ohlson - but agree he was probably the most education of all NZ's children's show TV presenters. Also have memories of Yvonne Moore (ex PM Mike Moore's wife) on "Romper Room" and the big fights between those who supported "Hey, Hey - it's Andy" and those who followed "Nice One Stu" (that evil Roger Gascoine! ;D ). Remember also "Spot On", "A Haunting We Will Go" and "Chic Chat". Those were the days...

Spot On rocked! I loved that series. Remember the film competitions they used to run? One of the winners went onto become notable - Peter Jackson!
Spot On was basically a Kiwi version of the BBC classic, Blue Peter. I have never understood why it was cancelled because everyone loved it. Blue Peter is still running after decades, why not Spot On?? I might start a new thread about that show.
I'd forgotten about Romper Room and Hey - It's Andy.
Andy went on to become a producer or director and is now a bigwig in TVNZ I think. And Stu Dennison became one of the top producers in TVNZ Sport. You often saw his name in credits for the rugby, etc (when TV1 had rugby that was)

"Chic Chat" was fab. Chic Littlewood is one of my heroes! and Auntie Alma I actually had a small part in the sequel to "A Haunting We Will Go", which was called "It Is I, Count Homogenised" (yes, he got his own show!) I think it was made in 1982...

Wow, who did you play Phil?
I recall that sequel vaguely, but not much about it.

Just a boy, I think - as it was 23yrs (!) ago and I was 10/11 yrs old I can't remember much about it... it was about the same time I was on "W3" and "The Kids from OWL"...

"The Kids from OWL"
That rings a faint bell, what was that about?

Two kids in wheelchairs and their friends - including an old woman who runs a bookshop (not entirely sure about this last bit?) are agents for a group called the "Organisation for World Liberty", and battle the villainous forces of "SLIME" (sorry, can't remember what that stood for)... back in the days when the BCNZ made live-action children's drama... altho' if we saw it today it probably wouldn't be very good... I think it was made in the school holidays in 82/83 or 83/84... to be honest, I'd rather see "Under the Mountain" again, or "Children of the Dog Star", or "The Fire-Raiser", or...

All of this is awesome!!! 3.45 Live! is still one of my favourite shows of all time - except for the boring 'black beauty' show they always played.. Hine Elder (ex Mrs Paul Holmes - how could you even go there Hine? ), Nigel (curly mullet man) Finella Barfield (went on to straight-to-video 'Dancing with Beanie') and most importantly Phil Keoghan (blond and spikey) and Rikki Morris (number 1 song 'Nobody Else' and more recently tv show 'Get your act together') hosted 3.45 Live! I think Rikki and Phil were my first tv crushes - hey, I'm sure they'd still rate compared to others in their age group (all things considered anyway...) 'Spot On' was also one of the best we've seen on tv - I only remember Danny Watson, Phil Keoghan and Ian Taylor as presenters on this. I understand Danny Watson is now a long haired hippy who hosts talkback radio, Phil Keoghan has conquered American tv with 'The Amazing Raçe' and Ian Taylor is the brains behind 'TaylorMade' the computer graphics team behind the America's Cup graphics and pretty much any other Kiwi made computer graphics that isn't conjured up by Weta workshop (I think Ian Taylor also did a stint hosting NZ's funniest home videos). I have been trying to track down video of Playschool, or even information about the hosts, esp Christian and Jon - they were soo good!! I still remember Jon being a plane and singing 'zoom zoom a zooma zooma zoom zoom' (hahah maybe this is where Mazda got the idea for their ad campaign???) 'tiptoe through the tulips' Hahahah okay, so enough ranting and reminising from me - can anyone help with info about Playschool and where they are now?? (other than the obvious with Rawiri Paratene - legend!)
